Podcasts are quickly becoming the wave of the future even though they are rooted in a medium from the past. Roosevelt's "Fireside Chats" allowed a nation to feel as though the president was speaking directly to them; today, people listen to something like Serial's "This American Life" to make personal connections with the speakers and the stories being told. Others listen to podcasts that debate topics, discuss current (or historical events), and explore the unexplained. The art of sharing stories and conveying ideas draws the audience closer to the speaker, and creating a podcast allows the speaker to creatively build collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills while practicing digital citizenship. This session will show you how to craft a lesson to help students create and share their own podcasts using available recording devices and Padlet. It will touch on developing the criteria for the assignment as well as real world applications for collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking, and citizenship.
