Point BreakoutEdu: Designing Breakout or Escape Room Challenges for ALL Students

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Breakout or escape room challenges are powerful tools for student engagement often made easier to access using digital tools. Online searches for templates or samples of these activities can yield wonderful resources and ideas, but often teachers desire to modify them to make them accessible to their student’s unique learning needs. This can be a roadblock for moving forward.

This session will focus specifically on the design process for a breakout or escape room activity using digital tools. After a brief introduction, a workshop will be facilitated and participants will be provided with resources and one-on-one support for planning and developing these challenges. Participants will be given the choice to work in groups or individually. One facilitator has a background in advanced academics and the other has a background in special education. In addition, participants will be provided with many resources to support getting started, including some ideas and take-aways for having students create their own breakout or escape room activity. Google tools will be used to support this work.

(To keep with the conference theme, this session will also include many references to the movie, Point Break!)
