Ride this tsunami of STEAM into your classroom. I’ll show you how I turned a blank physics lab into a pop-up maker space on the cheap. Bonus: you will leave with four design briefs that you can use in almost any classroom.
Design briefs include: Turning trash into energy. Make water wheels and wind mills that actually produce electricity out of trash. Physics Fidget Spinners. Homopolor motors of all shapes and designs.(I’ve even had art teachers get in on this one) Balloon vs Rubber Band Powered Cars: what type of power works best? This lab has a “purchase limit” so it focuses on the design aspect and my students had to fill out a purchase order and get it approved before the get materials. Marble Roller Coasters. Get your students building roller coasters out of card stock and tape. You should see the excitement this builds!
