Surfing Through Cause and Effect in Nonfiction Text with Ozobots

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Today’s learners are engaged with technology. They are thrilled with the lights, sounds and cool moves of robots. Fill your classroom with the excitement of critical thinking and collaboration when science texts become integrated with language arts. Students are actively engaged in finding the causes and effects in the nonfiction text so they can move onto a maze for their Ozobot. The students will decide on a cause and code a path to the correct effect. Sound easy? Try it out! Participants in this session will have the opportunity to work with partners to read and identify the causes and effects in the selection. They will then use markers to color code stickers with directional codes. These codes will tell the Ozobot to turn left, turn right, or go straight. Make the Ozobot dance when it reaches the end with a back walk or zigzag code! We will also discuss how students have created their own maps to help classmates review what they have learned. Participants will also learn how to use the Ozoblockly app to code their Ozobots. This session is designed to provide a hands-on learning experience and explain how we used the technology to motivate our students.
